Shahid Kapoor will be seen playing the role of Raja Rawal Ratan Singh, who was Rani Padmavati's husband, in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Padmavati. It’s said that Shahid is keen to look like the perfect Rajput warrior and is working hard to achieve the correct physique for the same. He’s also honing up his sword skills, employing as much as six trainers at a time.
A source close to the film had this to say to a leading tabloid: "The Rajputana style of sword-fighting is an evolved one, which requires the body to be both strong and agile at the same time. Shahid has been taught bits of Gatka, a mix of Angampora and Kalaripayattu. He is also learning spearplay, as the spear is a customary weapon among Rajputs. He has been training for 24 days now.”
Reportedly, Shahid Kapoor is also learning the basics of mardani khel, which is a weapon based martial art as well as Sqay, which originated from Kashmir. Shahid has also reportedly gone on a protein rich diet.
“With a deadline looming large, to meet the November release, there isn't enough time to prep before shooting. Shahid has no option but to juggle his shooting and training,” added the source.
Directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali and produced by Viacom18 Motion Pictures, Padmavati stars Shahid Kapoor, Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh in the lead roles and is releasing on November 17, 2017.
