They all seem to be different. Some of them have a time limit on how long the engine will run if started outside the vehicle. Mine does not shut off as soon as open the door. If you press the ignition button within a few minutes it will shut off.
This is my second vehicle with factory remote start. Both had 15 minute run times per start, up to 2 starts (actually, I might have been able to adjust the time on the first one). The first one, a 2006 Grand Prix, allowed the doors to open without shutting off the engine, but if you didn't put the key in the ignition and turn it to RUN before pressing on the brake to move the shifter it shut down the engine.
