GARDEN CITY, Idaho (CBS2) — Moving is a challenge as it is, but moving during a pandemic can be even more difficult.
A Boise woman emailed CBS 2 and told us her daughter, who lives at a mobile home park, has to move because the property is being renovated.
"We built on to this home, all the plumbing, and electricity that goes into these old trailers, it's all just sort of there to take down," Holm said.
Troy Holm said she bought a mobile home for her daughter and her two children. Back in August, they got a letter saying they would have to vacate the lot in March, due to the property being renovated.
"Now in the midst of this you have to go somewhere and there's really nothing she can do," Holm said.
Holm said the timing of the eviction is not ideal.
"It was bad in August when we were first told, the timing couldn't have been worse, and now that it's upon us. The weather, COVID-19 all of these factors don't make it easy for anyone to just get up and move," Holm said.
Keeping a mobile home is also expensive. She said the lowest quote to move one is more than $5,000.
"You can't just pick up a trailer and move, most of them have been built before 1976. They don't have wheels, and there's pretty much one person in town that has a business to move these trailers," Holm said.
The property owners said he contacted the city and tried to work with the tenants. Ultimately, they had trouble finding new spaces for their homes.
Holm said she's hoping her family can receive help in either finding a place for the trailer or other affordable housing options.
"Housing for a family of three is hard to find in the price range we are currently at," Holm said.
The property owner said they have given notice to tenants every month since August. He also says he called around to other mobile home parks in the area but they were full.
